Born in
Kufstein in the Austrian Tyrol, Marisa Altmann-Althausen attended the Innsbruck
Conservatory and subsequently pursued her studies with Walter Berry and
Wolfgang Brendel in Vienna. She attended master-classes with Birgit Nilsson.
Laureate of the Beniamino Gigli competition in Sirmione, she began her career as a soloist with the Theater Hagen in Germany (under the direction of Michael Halász), guesting regularly for Opera Theatres in Germany including Krefeld, Düsseldorf, Hagen...
She went on to sign a 2-year contract with the Staatstheater Kassel(under the direction of Roberto Paternostro), which launched her career on the international circuit and was then engaged by the Munich Opera Festival to sing Hécube for their new production of Les Troyens by Hector Berlioz under the direction of Zubin Mehta.
Subsequent engagements include Parsifal in Munich (Peter Schneider), Die Walküre (Bertrand de Billy) at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona...
Marisa Altmann-Althausen is invited regularly to give recitals as ambassador for the United Nations or the Austrian Cultural Institute, performing her repertoire of predilection: Wagner, Strauss, Verdi..., engagements that have taken her to Tokyo, Paris and to New York.
Her involvement in the United Nations programm has led her to giver regular master-classes during her international activities.
On 15 Oct 2022, she was awarded the Gottlob Frick Medal in recognition and appreciation of extraordinary services in the field of opera creation.
